The need

Research has shown that four-in-five organisations have commitments to address Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) in their sustainability reports, yet fewer than half of these organisations have shared measurable targets for how their activities contribute towards fulfilling the SDGs [i].

Support the Goals’, an initiative that rewards businesses and organisations for supporting the UN Global Goals, states that organisations need to have a structured approach to planning, target setting, and reporting with respect to the SDGs. Wicked Lab’s Tool for Systemic Change SDGs features enable organisations to clearly map, track, measure and share their contributions to SDGs and targets.

This workshop series will support participants to use the Wicked Lab Tool for Systemic Change and enable participants to rapidly map and visualise their organisation's contributions across all 17 goals and 169 thematic targets.

Tool for Systemic Change

Using the award-winning Tool for Systemic Change[ii], participants of the workshop will be able to:

  • identify the priority goals for their organisation based on activities

  • articulate their organisation's contribution to targets

  • demonstrate how they are taking action on targets

  • show how they are collaborating on action to address the SDGs

  • share data and visualisations with stakeholders and partners

  • highlighting opportunities to stretch contributions to SDGs not currently addressed

The value of mapping and visualising SDGs

At the heart of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development are 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) that are an integrated and interdependent set of global priorities and objectives for addressing the world’s most pressing challenges. These SDGs and their 169 associated targets can be classified as either ‘means of implementation’ or ‘thematic area covered’.

This workshop series will accelerate engagement with the SDGs, enable participants to use state-of-the-art visualisations and measurement to demonstrate how their organisation is contributing to the SDGs and global targets using Wicked Lab Tool for Systemic Change.

Participants of the workshop will produce three visualisations using the Tool:

  • An SDGs Alignment Card that visualises how an organisation's activities are contributing to the goals and targets

  • A Thematic Targets network map that shows how targets and goals are interconnected

  • An ecosystem map of the organisations or teams that are partnering on these activities

Together, these visualisations will strengthen the work of the participating organisations by demonstrating how they are making contributions toward achieving the Sustainable Development Goals and enabling them to share these with stakeholders and partners.

The program comes with a 12-month licence enabling participants to produce a report now for 2022-2023 and another in the 2024 reporting season.
